CADYVILLE — Mary Ellen Gero, 80, of Kennedy Road, Cadyville, died peacefully in the early morning hours of Saturday, March 30, 2013, at her home, with her loving family by her side. Mary battled cancer valiantly and courageously, for many months.
She was born in Peasleeville, Aug. 10, 1932. Mary was a loyal and devoted homemaker, and took great pride in her home both inside and outside. She loved to be outside. When she wasn't mowing the grass, she had a paintbrush in her hand. She loved dancing and was known to "cut-a-rug" with the very best. Mary was able to do what she enjoyed until her health declined and slowed her at the age of 79.
Survivors include her loving husband of 45 years, Irvin Rodney Gero of Cadyville; children, Marilyn Velie and her husband Jim Furnia of Saranac, Richard Plumadore and his wife Robin Hinson of Cadyville, Steve Plumadore of Saranac, Tammy Plumadore and companion Stacy Liberty of Cadyville, and Brenda Shook and her husband Steve of Cadyville; 16 grandchildren, Donald, Robert, David, Richard, John, Jaimie, Patrick, Dale, Derek, Ryan, Steven, Heather, Cayla, Jennifer, Chad, and Sara; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-grandson "on the way", Micah; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son, Larry Plumadore (2005); son-in-law, Don Velie (2005); three brothers; and four sisters.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, April 1, at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 2, at St. Joseph's Church in Dannemora, with Rev. Donald F. Kramberg, parish Pastor, celebrating.
