---- — PLATTSBURGH — Mrs. Rita (Margaret) Thompson, 92, formerly of Carter Court, Dannemora, and most recently of Erin Court and Pine Harbour, died Saturday, March 23, at Meadowbrook Health Care, where she had lived since Aug., 2011.

She was born in Plattsburgh on Nov. 9, 1920, the daughter of Walter and Emma (Demarse) Light.

Rita graduated from Plattsburgh High School and married Walter J. Thompson on Nov. 28, 1940, at St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh. They raised their family in Dannemora where she was a member of the Catholic Daughters and a communicant of St. Joseph's Church. She worked in the children's department at Merkel's Store for twenty years.

After moving back to Plattsburgh, she became a member of St. Peter's Church once again. She enjoyed her relationship with Eye Care of the Adirondacks as a volunteer. She loved to camp, play cards and travel. She and Walt were snowbirds for 14 years in Florida.

Besides her parents, Rita was predeceased by her husband Walter J. Thompson; her brother Walter Light and his wife Shirley; a granddaughter, Jennifer Thompson; a nephew, Brad Brodtman; and several brothers and sisters-in-law.

Rita is survived by a daughter Suzanne (Sue) Holt and her husband Garry of Plattsburgh, Minnesota and Ruskin, Fla.; two sons, Colin Thompson and his wife Mary Ann of Whitehall, N.Y., Thomas (Tom) Thompson and his wife Sheila of Attica, N.Y.; a sister Marion Brodtman and her husband Stanley of Enfield, Conn.; and six grandchildren, Janice and her husband Todd Cain of Minnesota, Sharon and her husband Michael Walsh of Rhode Island, Katherine Thompson and her

husband Matt Gallipeo of Granville, N.Y., Stephen Thompson and Robert Thompson of Attica, and Theresa Thompson and her husband Jeremy Deuel, also of Attica. Rita is also survived by ten great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 3, at St. Peter's Church. The family will welcome guests for lunch in the Emmaus Room immediately following the Mass. Entombment will be at Whispering Maples Mausoleum on the Tom Miller Road.
