Mary L. Melhorn

PERU — Mary L. Melhorn, 69, of the Lapham Mills Road, died Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at Fletcher Allen Healthcare in Burlington, Vt., following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Plattsburgh, Dec. 10, 1943, the daughter of Oral and Evelyn (Lavarnway) Senecal.

Mary graduated from D'Youville Academy in Plattsburgh. After school she attended OLVA. Mary worked for KFC for 24 years, working her way up to General Manager for the last 14 years of her employment. In retirement, Mary volunteered for five years at the CVPH surgical waiting room and library. Mary was a communicant of St. Augustine's Church in Peru for 34 years, and helped the decorating committee during the holidays. Mary also enjoyed crafting, walking with her husband, and most especially spending time with her grandchildren. Mary was a loving wife, mother, and sister.

Mary is survived by her devoted husband of 48 years, Robert C. Melhorn, Sr; daughters, Christina (Dennis) Landi of Virginia, Gabrielle (Robert) Zuckerberg of Albany; sons Robert C. Melhorn Jr. of San Francisco, Calif., and Ronald C. Melhorn and his companion Julie Dynko of Peru; grandchildren, Ashley, Robert Jr., Hannah, Kyleigh, Emma, and Bridget; brothers, Donald (Theresa) Senecal, Paul (Bess) Senecal; sisters, Nancy Zalusky, and Marjorie (Peter) Puccetti; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents; her brother Dick; sisters, Lorraine Szablewski, Shirley Appleby, Jeanne Boslet, and Agnes Senecal (infant); a nephew, Ricky Senecal; and niece, Donna Provost.

Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, July 19, at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 20, at St. Augustine's Church with Rev. Alan D. Shnob, parish Pastor, celebrating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
