---- — PLATTSBURGH — Shelley J. Willette, 58, of Trafalgar Drive, Plattsburgh, N.Y., died Saturday, June 22, 2013, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
She was born in Plattsburgh on September 2, 1954, the daughter of Walton and Jeannette (Blain) Wallett. After graduating from Northeastern Clinton Central School in 1972, she married the love of her life and kindred spirit, Mitchell Willette, on March 16, 1974, in the middle of a blinding snowstorm. In 1976, her dream of becoming a mom came true with the birth of a son, Erik. Matthew followed in 1979, and Danion rounded out the trio in 1983.
After spending many years as a proud full-time mom, Shelley entered the Clinton Community College nursing program and realized yet another lifelong dream, becoming a registered nurse in 1991. Answering His call for us to care for others, Shelley found her true calling in providing comfort to her North Country neighbors over the years at CVPH in orthopedics and the kidney dialysis unit, at Eye Care for the Adirondacks, at the Advocacy and Resource Center, and most recently at Hospice of the North Country.
Shelley deeply enjoyed traveling the area to attend her boys' many sporting events, as both a proud mama in the stands and the unofficial team nurse. Through both the many sports teams and a number of years as a religious education instructor alongside her husband, Shelley took seriously her role as surrogate mom for numerous young people in the area. She was a Home Bureau member, a Mission of Hope volunteer and sponsor, as well as a Marriage Encounter presenter with Mitch. She was a Healing Touch practitioner. She loved the many faith-filled summers of camping at Family Guggenheim, especially as a presenting family with her boys and husband. She was a proud member of the FOBs.
She is predeceased by her mother, Jeannette (Blain) Wallett, father, Walton Wallett, sister-in-law, Carol (Bechard) Wallett, and favorite aunt, Rita (Blain) Stone. Shelley is survived by her husband, Mitch, and her sons and daughters-in-law, Erik and Noel Willette of Prospect Park, Pa., Matt and Dorothy Willette of Silver Spring, Md., and Dan and Amy Willette of Brewster, N.Y.; her siblings, Bruce and Sandy Wallett of Champlain, Barb and Marcel Filion of Plattsburgh; Bob Wallett and Lisa Maskell of Plattsburgh, Karen and Rick Batchelder of Plattsburgh; five grandchildren, Chelsea, Christopher, Samantha, Levon, and soon-to-be-born baby Willette; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and the many others that she touched. Many she has loved and many more have loved her.
