MARTINSBURG, VA — Alice Runion VanLeuvan of Martinsburg, WV, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at Meritus Hospital in Hagerstown, Md., from complications after surgery and while surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Alice was born May 30, 1939 in Timberville, Va., to Myraveve Jones Runion and Ivan "Doc" Runion. She graduated from Broadway Highschool in Broadway, Va., and attended Shenandoah College in Dayton, Va. While working in Washington DC she met her husband Harry VanLeuvan. They were married Dec. 1, 1962, at St. Luke's County Line +United Church of Christ in Timberville, Va. She followed her husband throughout his United States Border Patrol career living in Yuma, Ariz., Rouses Point, N.Y., Tampa, Fla., and Westminster, Md., before retiring and settling in Martinsburg, WV.
Alice was an excellent Executive Secretary who worked for several attorneys, Law Firms and school districts in each of the places they lived. She enjoyed her family and friends, traveling, and staying in touch with the many friends they acquired from living in several areas of the country. She greatly enjoyed the "Gang of Friends" weekends held throughout the year.
Alice is predeceased by her parents Myraveve Jones Runion and Ivan "Doc" Runion; her in-laws, Minnie Thelma Decker-VanLeuvan-Bruce and Russell "Pop" Bruce; brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Midge Norman; brothers-in-law, Doug Glass, Mervin Armentrout Jr., and Clarence VanLeuvan.
Alice is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Harry VanLeuvan; son, Barton VanLeuvan and wife Joy of Mooers, N.Y; son, Bruce VanLeuvan and fiance Pam Duprey of Littlestown, Pa.; daughter, Penny Martin and husband Daniel of Gore, Va.; sister, Sarah Wease and husband Lynn of Fishersville, Va.; sister, Karen Starliper Hagerstown, Md.; sister-in-law, Patricia Glass of Walden, N.Y.; brother-in-law, Frank VanLeuvan of Colo.; six grandchildren, Jenna Seguin and husband Matthew of Rouses Point, N.Y., Jessica VanLeuvan of Mooers, N.Y., Molly and Logan Vanleuvan of Westminster, Md., and Mason and Myra Martin of Gore, Va.; several nieces and nephews from Walden, N.Y., Birdsboro, Pa., Royersford, Pa., Pasadena, Md., Smithsboro, Md., Martinsburg, WV, and Union, Ky.
