KEESEVILLE — James R. Robare Sr., 79, of Route 9S, Keeseville, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at the CVPH Medical Center, with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Keeseville, Jan. 15, 1934, the son of Rolland and Julia (Mitchell) Robare. Jim served in Korea with the United States Army. He was honorably discharged Nov. 16, 1955.
Jim drove truck for the Town of Chesterfield Highway Dept. for 20 years. He was a longtime member of the Keeseville VFW Post 1505.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing the guitar, shuffleboard, race car driving, and working on a variety of small engines. Jim was known for his quiet calmness. He enjoyed visiting, and especially enjoyed gatherings with family and friends.
Survivors include his children, Carol Prentiss and husband Skip of Peru, Cindy Allen and husband Tom of North Carolina, James Robare Jr. and wife Marty of Peru, Laurie King and husband David of Keeseville, and Tim Robare and wife Rebecca of Keeseville; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; loving wife, Barbara M. (Russell) Robare; and siblings, Sherman, Harold, and Tom Robare, and Judy Dobbs.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated, at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, at St. John's Church in Keeseville. Committal prayers, military honors, and burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
