David James Hall


---- — SCHUYLER FALLS — David James Hall, 69, died Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, with his loving family by his side.

Born in Plattsburgh, N.Y. on June 17, 1944, he was the son of James (Bill) and Kennethea (Kennie) Hall.

Dave was educated at Beekmantown Central School, The Chicago Institute of Technology, Clinton Community College, and Oswego State. He was employed as a mechanic at Bay View Dairy in Plattsburgh for 16 years. He left to pursue a teaching career at Champlain Valley Educational Services (CV-Tech) as an Occupational Education teacher.

Dave was a veteran school board member, serving ten years at Beekmantown Central, over 15 years at Peru Central, and over three years on the Clinton-Essex-Warren-Washington (CEWW) BOE. He was the past president and 15 year member of the CEWW NY State United Teachers Union. He was a past member of the Boy Scouts of America, holder of rank of Eagle, and recipient of the National Boy Scout Honor Society Order of the Arrow as a Vigil member. He spent 23 years as a volunteer in the Cumberland Head Fire Department where he worked his way from lieutenant, to captain, to serving as the department's chief. During his time with the CHFD he received an award for Heroism in Lifesaving from the Clinton County Fireman's Association.

Dave was a master craftsman. He enjoyed spending his time on many projects, most recently, on building a scale model replica of the PT 109 Torpedo Boat. He could usually be found in his workshop, or tinkering in his garage. There wasn't an engine he couldn't fix. He was an avid reader, who surrounded himself with books, and never missed completing his morning crossword puzzle. Dave enjoyed music, and played the clarinet. A wealth of knowledge, he loved history and the Adirondacks. He was always willing to help anyone in need. He loved caring for his favorite violets, and spending time with his animals, Jake, Ozzy, Harriet, and special kitty, Bushey.

Dave is survived by his wife Jacquelin (Jackie); his daughters Kathleen Hall-Dumont and her husband Todd Dumont, Cori Hall and her fianc^ Andrew Kenley; foster daughters Sarah and Crista Hall; his sister Sharron Garden; his brother and sister-in-law Michael Shaun and Ellen Hall; his nephews James Craig (Erin) Allison, Nathan (Christina) Garden, Matthew (Christina) Garden, James (Manami) Hall; his nieces Erin Hall and her companion Mathew Rabideau, and Carrie Hall; and his cousin Danny (Maggie) Barry. He is also survived by cousins, grand nieces and nephews; and many special friends.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his mother-in-law and father-in-law Cora Cray and Robert Bushey; his cousin Robert Barry; and his brother-in-law, James Garden.

Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 21 at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home at 69 Court St. Plattsburgh, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery.
