PLATTSBURGH — Lawrence G. "Larry" Senecal, 74, of the South Junction Road, Plattsburgh, died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
He was born in Plattsburgh, Aug. 15, 1939, the son of Ralph and Agnes (Rock) Senecal.
Larry joined the United States Air Force on Dec. 27, 1956, and served until his honorable discharge, April 22, 1960. He worked for many years at Day Bros. Boats in Plattsburgh. Larry was a member of the Laborer's Union Local 186 for several years and worked for many area construction companies. Most of the time he and his brother, Arthur Senecal, worked side by side.
He was a life member of the St. Augustine's K of C Council 7273 in Peru. He was a former Assistant Chief of both Rescue Hose #5 and South Plattsburgh Fire Departments. He was extremely proud of his grandson Jason Lamoy who followed in his fire-service footsteps. He was a Town and County Democrat Committee Member, he assisted with numerous fundraisers and elections, including assisting his son-in-law, Paul Lamoy, get elected to serve on the Plattsburgh Town Council as a board member. He also worked the election polls for many years.
He was an avid fisherman, and loved being out on the water in his boat with his grandson Jason, brother-in-law Carl Lancto, and his brothers and sisters. He enjoyed watching his grandson Jason play hockey and his granddaughter Ashley Lamoy participate in gymnastics. He enjoyed being outdoors, camping, playing horse shoes, and just being around his family and friends. He spent many years traveling to flea markets and local fairs with his wife Barbara. Most recently his great- grandchildren Isabel, Kori-lynne, and Arizona Lamoy, were his pride and joy. They would spend hours doing puzzles with him.
Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Barbara (Ryan) Senecal, whom he married Dec. 1, 1962, at St. Joseph's Parish in Treadwells Mills; his daughter Karen Lamoy and her husband Paul of Plattsburgh; sons, Scott Senecal and his wife Marzieh of Florida, and Ralph Senecal of Plattsburgh; grandchildren, Jason Lamoy and his wife Natasha, Ashley Lamoy and her companion Bill Miner, Jamie Senecal, Scott Senecal, Nina Salib, and Jessica Salib; great-grandchildren, Isabel, Kori-lynne, Arizona Lamoy; brother Ralph Senecal; sisters, Joyce Branham, Barbara (Butch) Hodil, Wanda (James) Guynup, and sister-in-law, Sylvia Senecal; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Donald Senecal, and Arthur Senecal; sister, Marium Hurley; and sister-in-law June (Lepage) Senecal.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 23, at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A prayer service will follow at 8 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.
