HAMPTON, VA. — Charlotte M. Granish, 87, of Hampton, Va., formerly of Au Sable Forks, N.Y., passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at Riverside Regional Center, Newport News.
Charlotte was born Jan. 25, 1926, in Lake Placid, N.Y., to John and Francis (Pelkey) Southmayd. She graduated from AuSable Forks High School in 1944.
She was predeceased by her parents and four sisters, Janet, Joan, Craig, Bertha Bola and Martha Bowen. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Lawrence (Bill); her son, Lawrence Jr. and his wife Nancy of Olympia, Wash.; her daughter, Debbie Muire and husband Al of Hampton; her son, Wayne and his wife Barbara of Saranac Lake, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Samantha, Danielle Fitzgerald, Scott and Kris; and one great-grandchild, Hadley Fitzgerald. She is also survived by two sisters, June Hart and Sarah Miller of Au Sable Forks; and her twin brother, Charles Southmayd of Jay, N.Y.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at Thwaits-Zaumetzer Funeral Home, Au Sable Forks, NY. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to remember Charlotte may make memorial contributions in her name to Au Sable Forks Volunteer Ambulance Squad or a favorite charity.
