PORT KENT — Betty M. McGee, 89, of Second Street, Port Kent died Monday, Feb. 7, 2011, at her home, with her loving family by her side and under the care of High Peaks Hospice of Essex County.
She was born in Wheeling, W.Va., April 24, 1921, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Lewis.
Betty grew up in Keeseville and graduated from Keeseville High School in 1939. She served as the postmistress in the AuSable Chasm Post Office for 17 years, retiring in 1985.
She enjoyed traveling, spending time outside feeding the birds and flower gardening, cooking and baking.
Survivors include her children, Deborah and her husband, Kim Marsha of Keeseville, Gerard McGee of Port Kent, Robert Sullivan of Keeseville, William Sullivan and his wife, Doris of Keeseville and Donald Sullivan and his wife, Doris of Port Douglas, Linda Devivo and her husband, Steve of Scotia and Anne Sullivan and her husband, James Dilley of Pipersville, Pa.; four grandchildren, Cindy Brewer, Laurie Sullivan, Natalie Sullivan and Lianne Svenson; five great-grandchildren, Alana Brewer, Skylar Brewer, Liam Snyder, Robert Svenson and Patrick Svenson; and special family member, Leeward LaBier of Stowe, Vt.
She was predeceased by her parents; and her husband, Gerard H. McGee, March 24, 1983.
Calling hours will be held Friday, Feb. 11, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the spring in the Port Kent Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to High Peaks Hospice.
