---- — MORRISONVILLE — Mr. Herbert A. "Herb" Recore Sr., 87, of Route 3, Morrisonville passed away on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, at Meadowbrook Health Care Facility in Plattsburgh with his family by his side.

He was born in Altona, N.Y. on June 2, 1925, the son of the late Emile and Vina Marie (Rabideau) Recore.

Herb graduated from Mount Assumption Institute Class of 1942. He served in the Army, Special Forces from 1942 to 1945 during WWII where he received the Purple Heart for being wounded at Normandy at the Battle at St. Lo.

Herb worked at Pal Blade, Georgia Pacific and Theodore Stay and Sons. He owned and operated Recore's Grocery in Morrisonville with his late wife Ella for many years and he had owned the Skyway Chevron Gas Station. Herb was a member of the American Legion Post #1619, the VFW Post #309 and St. Alexander's Church, Morrisonville. He enjoyed collecting coins, golfing, vehicle restoration, snowmobiling, watching old western television shows, eating Miller's popcorn and spending time with his family.

Herb was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Ella in 2009; a grandson, Herbert Recore III; and his only brother, Leonard Recore and his wife Leona.

He is survived by five sons, Herbert Recore Jr. and his wife Donna of Pittsboro, N.C. and two sons, Chad Recore and his wife Kim of Peru, Craig Recore of Rochester, N.Y.; James Recore and his wife Shirley of Morrisonville and their two sons, James Recore Jr. and his wife Dina of Marrietta, Ga., Jeff Recore and his wife Alexis of Plattsburgh; Donald Recore and his wife Dawn of Champlain and their two daughters, Kirsten Recore of Champlain, Jessica Kamilewicz of Plattsburgh; John Recore and his wife Barbara of Plattsburgh, and their four sons, John Recore Jr. and his wife Michelle of Plattsburgh, Todd Recore and his wife April of Plattsburgh, Jason Recore of Plattsburgh, Jeremy Recore and his wife Jennifer of Plattsburgh; Andrew Recore and his longtime companion Starr Daniels of Beekmantown and children, Cayla Wick and her husband Robert of Savannah, Tenn., Christina Recore of Peru, Bryan Daniels of Beekmantown; 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St. in Plattsburgh.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, at St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville. Interment will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery.
