William J. "Bill" Rhino Sr.

---- — AU SABLE FORKS — William J. (Bill) Rhino Sr., 72, of Golf Course Road passed away Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at CVPH Medical Center, with his loving family by his side. He was born July 28, 1941, in Au Sable Forks, the son of Patrick and Lila (Sawyer) Rhino.

Bill graduated from Au Sable Forks High School. He entered the US Army and served in Korea and received an honorable discharge. After several careers, he entered the Department of Corrections, from where he retired after many years of service.

Bill was an avid sportsman with a passion for hunting. He was an original member of the One Shot Club and with his oldest buddy and hunting partner John Santor and other friends he enjoyed many years of hunting. Bill was a past town assessor and Republican party member of the Town of Black Brook, a past member and chief of the Au Sable Forks Fire Department, a member of the American Legion Post 504 of Au Sable Forks.

Bill is survived by his children, William Jr. and wife Renee Rhino, Dean Rhino and companion Heidi Van Valkenburg, Eve and husband Donald Lavallee, Theresa and husband Patrick Dellavalle; and his grandchildren, William and Nicholas Rhino, Dean Jr., Patrick, Alexis, Jacob, and Jeremiah Rhino, Kodi Gordon, Tanner Lavallee, Austin and Nathan Brault; a sister, Betty Ryno; several nieces and nephews.

Bill was predeceased by his wife, Janice (Osborne) Rhino on March 29, 2013, whom he married in August of 1961 in Standish; his brother and sister-in-law, Patrick and Sylvia Rhino; his sister, Joyce and her husband James Minogue.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Thwaits- Zaumetzer Funeral Home, Au Sable Forks. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, at Holy Name Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Au Sable Forks Ambulance Service.
