TICONDEROGA — Adolph N. Diskin, 97, a resident of Ticonderoga passed away on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, at Moses Ludington Nursing Home in Ticonderoga following a short illness.
He was born on Dec. 23, 1915, in New Rochelle, N.Y., and was the son of the late Bernard and Bessie (Greenstein) Diskin.
Prior to his retirement Mr. Diskin was the owner and operator of Diskin Scrap Metal Co. in Ticonderoga for over 60 years. He was a very active member of the Shaaray Tefila Synagogue. Adolph was active in many organizations which included the Republican politics. He served as Town Supervisor of Ticonderoga from 1982-1987, Republican Commissioner of Essex County from 1989 - 1999 and a Village Board Trustee of Ticonderoga in the 1960's.
Mr. Diskin was also active in many fraternal organizations including being a life member of BPOE Lodge 1494, Ticonderoga for over 70 years, Mount Defiance Lodge 794 F&AM for over 60 years where he served as Master of the Lodge and District Deputy, Royal Arch Mason 425 of Warrensburg, Oriental Shriners of Troy and Ft. Ticonderoga Eastern Star, Ticonderoga Boy Scouts and the Chairman of the Finance Committee for the Moses Ludington Building Project. He was also the recipient of the Liberty Bell Award given by the Essex County Bar Association.
Adolph was known to be very gentle, kind man who shared a special relationship with his nephew, Alan Kaplan and a longtime friendship with Art Watrous.
He is predeceased by his wife, Helen (Kaplan) Diskin who passed away in Nov. 1991; son, David Diskin; Sister, Sadie Drucker; and great-grandson, Shane Diskin.
Survivors include two daughters, Deborah Beahan and her husband Thomas of Hudson Falls; Mary Mattison and her husband Dean of Bakersfield, Calif.; son, Michael Diskin and his wife, Betsi of Ticonderoga; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Bella Diskin of Ticonderoga and several nephews and one niece.
Funeral services were conducted on Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, at the Regan Denny Stafford Funeral Home, 53 Quaker Rd, Queensbury, N.Y. Burial took place at Shaaray Tefila Cemetery, Queensbury, N.Y.
