CHAZY — Royal Phillip Giroux, 86, of Chazy, N.Y., passed away on April 12, 204 while at his home in Palm Harbor, Fla. under the care of his family and Hospice.
He was born on April 21, 1927 in Plattsburgh, N.Y. to the late Wilfred and Corine (Guay) Giroux.
He was educated at MAI and further educated in Ogdensburg, N.Y. In 1952 Royal married Anita Bedard from Champlain, N.Y., who remained his wife for 62 years.
Royal owned and operated Church Oil Co. in Plattsburgh until his retirement in 1994. He was an active member of the Elks Club and Kiwanis Club. He loved his family and the beauty of Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains, always appreciating his surroundings.
He is survived by his wife, Anita (Bedard) Giroux; and their children, Bryan and Julie Giroux, Stephanie and Adrian Rovers, Stephen Giroux, Christine and William Ashley, Cynthia and James Woodward, Kathleen Giroux and her companion Geoffrey Barker, and Eryn and Steve Stetson. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is survived by his five brothers and sisters, Leo Giroux, Pauline (Giroux) Fisher, Marie (Giroux) Labine, Marguerite (Giroux) Collins, and Roger Giroux.
He is predeceased by one brother, Eugene (Sarto) Giroux; and one sister, Paula Giroux.
At his request there will be no public calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Monday, April 21, 2014 at Sacred Heart Church in Chazy. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 in the parish cemetery following a 9 am Mass at Sacred Heart Church.
