PERU — Irene D. Way, 74, of the Telegraph Road, Peru, passed peacefully on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at Fletcher Allen Health Care with her loving family by her side. She was born Dec. 30, 1939, in Plattsburgh, the daughter of Clifford and Lena (Perry) Duprey.
Irene graduated from Peru Central School. She was married to Carl Way, who predeceased her.
Irene was an amazing waitress for 25 years at the former Highway Restaurant on the Lake Shore Road, Plattsburgh.
As a member of the athletic Duprey family, Irene attended innumerable sporting events over the years to cheer on her siblings, her children and grandchildren as well as dozens of nephews and nieces.
Irene was a gentle person until sitting at the family table playing a card game of Scat when she became a fierce competitor who was determined to beat all those athletes. In fact, there was a sense as Irene passed away that a deck of Pinochle cards was being prepared for Irene to complete the foursome with her parents and sister, Ruth.
For the past several years, Irene regularly attended the Senior Citizens Nutrition program meals at the Peru site. She enjoyed the time to visit with many friends, and the family thanks all of them who have reached out with concern over these past six weeks.
Survivors include her children, Pamela Way and her fiance Brian Morosco of Florida, Ann Marks and her husband Richard of Plattsburgh, Tim and his fiance Tammy Goddeau and Jeff (Robin) of Schuyler Falls. She dearly loved her grandchildren, Taylor Lucas, Brandon Way, Tyler Way, Colby Way, and James and Zachary Blocker. In addition, she is survived by her brothers, Elmer (Janet), Jim (Ellyn), Joe (Judy), Harry (Elaine), Donnie (Arletta), David (Holly), Ricky (Laurie); and sisters, Audrey (Larry) Brean, Betty (Doug) Rombach, Debbie (Steve) Eilers, Kim (Kris) Bruno and many nieces and nephews.
