PORT HENRY — Mazie Ruth (Laing) Stone, 93, joined her Lord on April 2, 2014, following a brief illness, at Heritage Commons in Ticonderoga, N.Y.
She was born on Nov. 24, 1920, the daughter of the late John (Henry) Laing and Francis Mae (McGuiness) Laing of Moriah.
She is survived by a son, Robert E. Stone of Moriah; a daughter and son-in-law, Carole (Stone) and Norm St. Pierre; and her sister, Hazel M. Huntley. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Mazie was pre-deceased by husband, Charles Fredrick Stone; her brothers, Lewis H., Lester E., John and Raymond R. Laing; along with sisters, infant Lillian Laing, Mabel F. Woods, and Bessie M. Bennett.
She was a longtime resident of Port Henry, N.Y., working for many years at the original NuWay Laundry location. She also worked for many years at the Catch Penny Thrift Shop and later at the Senior Center in Port Henry. Although she never attended college, Mazie considered herself a life-long student and held a passion for reading. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, with a short service following at Harland's Funeral Home in Port Henry, N.Y.
