AU SABLE FORKS — Francis L. Gero passed away Oct. 31, 2013. He was born Oct. 10, 1955, in Lake Placid, the son of Francis and Dorothy (Betters) Gero.
Francis worked for the NYS Department of Corrections and retired from Adirondack Correctional Facility after 25 years of service.
He was a member of Sons of the American Legion Post #504 in Au Sable Forks, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, and the Loyal Order of Moose in Sebring, Fla.
Francis was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing, hunting and boating. He enjoyed his time at Fern Lake, and spent summer nights playing horseshoes and washers at his house. He achieved his life-long dream of owning a retirement home in Florida with his beloved wife, Barb, and they spent their time there with friends enjoying life. Francis enjoyed playing cards and visiting with friends and family around the kitchen table. He was a master Sudoku player and always tried his hand at lotto and scratch-off tickets.
His greatest joy came from his daughter, Rebecca, and his grandson, Jaxston. He loved taking Jaxston on four-wheeler rides. He had a sweet tooth and always shared his sweets with Jax.
Francis was the first to offer help when someone needed a hand. Along with his wife, Barb, they volunteered many hours in the kitchen at the American Legion and at the Ironman Aid Station in Black Brook.
He was predeceased by his parents and one sister, Margaret Trumbull. Francis is joined by his best friend and wife of 34 years, Barbara. He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Fuller; his son-in-law, Jason; and his grandson, Jaxston. He is also survived by his two brothers and three sisters, Bob and Mary Lessard of Melbourne, Fla., Sue and Buzz Pulsifer of Richmond, Va., Carol Ward, Mary and Scott Bombard, and Norm and Heidi Gero, all of Au Sable Forks; nieces and nephews, Tari, Robert, Todd, Bethany, Bobby, Lindsey, Andrew, Derek; and great-nieces and nephews. He is survived by his aunts and uncles, Helen Rhino, Joan Sequin, Many Goyette, Nancy Bombard, Eunice Frenyea and George Betters; many brothers and sisters-in-law; along with numerous cousins.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, at Thwaits-Zaumetzer Funeral Home, Au Sable Forks. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, also at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. A celebration of life will take place following the burial at the American Legion Post #504 in Au Sable Forks.
