CADYVILLE — Mr. Donald C. Jordan, 88, of Rt. 374, passed away in the early morning hours on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, at his home with his wife, Gert, by his side. He was born in Irona, N.Y., on July 9, 1925, to Noah and Melvina (Dame) Jordan.
Don attended school in Altona and joined the Navy on April 6, 1944 and was honorably discharged on May 8, 1946. During his service, he received the Asiatic Pacific Medal, the American Theater Medal and the Victory Medal.
Don worked construction and then went to work at Mattewan and Dannemora State Hospitals. He retired from Clinton Correctional Facility as a Sergeant in 1981. He attended St. James Church in Cadyville.
He was predeceased by his parents, Noah and Melvina, his brothers, Robert and Leslie, his sister, Evelyn, his son, Jeff, and his first wife, Marie Ladue.
Don is survived by his wife, Gert (Carter) Jordan; his daughter, Julie and her husband Nelson Tamer of Cadyville; his grandsons, Jason Tamer of Redford, and Nick and Malana Tamer of Plattsburgh; a great-grandson, Oliver Tamer of Plattsburgh; a special niece, Shelley (Jordan) Butterfield, and her hsband Robert and their son Jordan; and a special nephew, Leslie "Butch" Jordan and his wife Diane and their children Kristen and Patrick. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Dorothy (Carter) McCorry and her children, Mike, Kathy, Colleen, Patty and their families; his In-laws, Ronald, Donald, Gary and Linda Ladue and their families; and a close family friend, Joseph Miller of Albany, N.Y.
Don enjoyed spending time with his family more than anything, although he was always up for a game of golf. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus and the VFW.
He was a very proud man who always made his family proud. He helped family and friends every chance he got. He will forever be missed, but will live on in all those hearts he touched and in the beautiful blue eyes of his great-grandson, Oliver.
Calling hours were held on Monday at the R. W. Walker Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m today, Tuesday, Oct. 15, at St. James Church in Cadyville. Burial will follow in Holy Angel's Cemetery in Altona.
