POUGHKEEPSIE — Elizabeth "Libby" Fish, 93, a resident of Castle Court at Concord Village in Poughkeepsie, formerly of LaGrange, passed peacefully on Sept. 10, 2013. She was born Sept. 30, 1919, in Beverly, Mass., the daughter of Robert J. Hilton and Mary Lynch Owens.
Libby graduated from Beverly High School in 1936.
On June 29, 1941, she married Elmer P. Fish of Malden, Mass., at St. Mary's Star of the Sea Church in Beverly, Mass. Together they relocated from Watertown, Mass., to the town of LaGrange, where they lived and ran a business for many years.
Libby enjoyed working with the P.T.A., LaGrange Historical Society, Dutchess County Board of Elections, and St. Joseph's Parochial School in Millbrook. She was a tireless fundraiser for her community. She, along with her husband "Al," had a lifelong involvement with LaGrange Fire Department. In her later years, she met regularly with her friends at Pleasant Valley Seniors and most recently enjoyed the company of her neighbors at Castle Court.
Libby is survived by her son, Robert (Paula) Fish of Cadyville, N.Y.; daughter, JoAnn Ruzich of Hyde Park; son Richard (Gail) Fish of Valatie, N.Y.; grandchildren, Robert Fish Jr., Suzanne Fish, Jason Weir, Jamie Weir, Kristoffer (Kendle) Ruzich, Janice (Steven) Weiss and Kiersten Kuhn, as well as six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her brother, Robert Hilton of Beverly, Mass.; and brother-in-law, Joseph W. Fish of Hope Valley, R.I.
She was predeceased by her husband, Elmer Fish; sisters, Helen Hersey and Mary Frost of Beverly; and brother, Henry Hilton of Gloucester, Mass.
There will be a Mass celebrating her life 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at St. Joseph Church in Millbrook.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to LaGrange Fire Co. #1.
