MOOERS — Violet R. Rascoe, 88, formerly of Main Street, Mooers, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at the Evergreen Valley Nursing Home in Plattsburgh.
She was born in Saranac Lake, August 9, 1925, the daughter of Moses and Lena (Barcomb) Kentile. She grew up in Saranac Lake and attended Sarananc Lake High School.
She met Leonard V. Rascoe in 1942. They married Sept. 11, 1944. They moved to Mooers and raised their children there.
Violet was a charter member of the Mooers Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary, member of the Catholic Daughters, St. Joseph's Alter Rosary Society, Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, served as a Cub Scout Den Mother, and was active with the American Legion with her husband.
She enjoyed quilting, loved to play cards, crocheting, sewing. She was an avid bowler playing on many leagues.
Survivors include her children, Sandra Gray and husband Doug of Palm Coast, Fla., Linda Robor of Mooers Forks, Leonard T. Rascoe and wife Patti of North Fort Myers, Fla., Theresa Schwartz and husband Greg of Mt. Home, Idaho, and Bradley Rascoe and wife Julie of Westport; grandchildren, Richard Gray, Virginia Gray, Stephanie Gray, Matthew Robor, Jennifer Thornton, Joshua Schwartz, Molly Rascoe and Emily Rascoe; great-grandchildren, Douglas, Josephine, Gavin, Robyn, Kaleb, Mikayla, Tanner and Parker; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Leonard V. Rascoe, Nov. 27, 2012; and siblings, Marie and Marjorie; and her brother, Bernard.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 pm Monday, June 23, 2014 at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 793 Gilbert Road, Mooers. A funeral service will follow at 6 pm at the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel. Committal prayers will be offered at 2 pm Tuesday, June 24, 2014 in St. Bernard's Cemetery in Saranac Lake.
