ALTONA — Barbara Wood, 80, of Altona, died Friday, March 28, 2014, at Meadowbrook Healthcare.
She was born Nov. 22, 1933, in Sciota, N.Y., the daughter of Arthur and Dora (Blow) Myatt.
She married Wallace Wood on Oct. 18, 1954. He passed away on July 28, 2011. She worked at Woolworth's for five years, Aranac Ribbon Mill for eight years and retired from S. F. Vilas Home after 25 years of service.
She loved gardening, flowerbeds, crocheting and knitting stuff for her family, but her biggest hobby was hunting with her husband and family. She loved watching deer and taking pictures of them. She worked hard all of her life to provide for her family. She loved working at the Vilas home, visiting with the residents and making them a garden. She loved taking care of the flowers and especially working with the girls became good friends like Jazzy and Olive, who kept in touch with her throughout everything she went through. She had many friends whom she played cards with, went snowmobiling with, hunted with and spent time at her camp with, sharing meals and good times.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; brothers and sisters, Florence Rabideau, Dorothy Brean, Pauline Duprey, Gladys Brean, Catherine Myatt, Nora Myatt, Arthur Myatt, Edward Myatt, Morris Myatt, Lawrence Myatt, and Harry Myatt. She was also predeceased by her best friend, her dog Buddy, who never left her side.
Survivors include her children, Diane and Bruce Soden, Andrew Wood, Carl Wood and his companion, Tammy Rabideau; her grandchildren, Melissa Soden and her companion, Brian Guerin, Johnny Soden and his wife Susan, Christie Wood and her companion, Jeremy Cookingham, Brian and Carrie Guay; her great-grandchildren, Austin LaFave, Deseriah Guerin, Jaelynn Cookingham, Jonas and Alex Hoy and Brendon Guay. She is also survived by two sisters, Patricia Steins and Muriel Baker.
