ALTONA — PLATTSBURGH - Carl F. Darrah, 87, of Mallard Drive, Plattsburgh, N.Y., died on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, at his home with his family by his side, under the care of Hospice of the North Country.
He was born in Plattsburgh on March 3, 1926, the son of Robert and Anna (Sorrell) Darrah.
Carl worked at Imperial Wallcovering in Plattsburgh for 32 years, retiring in 1981. He and his wife Florence cared for individuals in their home through Family Care-Sunmount DDSO for 36 years.
Carl was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 13127, a member of Our Lady of Victory Church. He was past president of the Papermill Works Union in Plattsburgh. Carl enjoyed hunting, fishing, BINGO, auctions, gardening spending time with his family and his pipe.
He was predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Pamela Frederick; his siblings, Kenneth and Robert Darrah and Edna Gleason.
Carl is survived by his wife of 68 years, Florence (McGee) Darrah, who he married at St. Peter's Church on Oct. 25, 1945; two sons, Allen Darrah and his wife Bertha and Richard Darrah and his wife Linda, all of Plattsburgh; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Cindy, Sandy, Allen, Andy, Candy, Elizabeth, Lanie, Davina and Corey; great-grandchildren, Alisha, April, Jordan, Ethan, Kylie, Alana, Dawn, Amber, Megan, Andy Jr., Jason, Landon, Matthew, Danny Jr., David, Dylan, Kerra, Richard, Brandon, Ronnie, Shayna, Kyler and Carter; two great-great-granddaughters, Aubrey Lynn and Haley; a brother, Leon Darrah of Plattsburgh; several nieces and nephews; and his dog Gidget also survive him.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2, at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 3, at St. Peter's Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will be in the parish cemetery later in the year.
