PERU — Verla D. Weeks, 100, formerly of Route 22, Peru, died Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at the Elcor Nursing Home, Colonial Drive, Horseheads, N.Y.
She was born in Grand Isle, Vt., Oct. 6, 1913, the daughter of Henry and Ida Mae (St. Onge) Senecal.
Verla was an LPN at Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh for many years, and worked as a payroll clerk at Diamond Match, later Georgia Pacific, and lastly Diamond International for 30 years prior to retiring in 1978.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Donald Hetrick of Horseheads; 5 granddaughters; 10 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; one very special niece, Barbara Tatreault and husband Andy of Keeseville; and one nephew, Gary Senecal and wife Madeline of Keeseville.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Dana Weeks, Sept. 21, 1988; daughter, Diana, Sept. 15, 1978; and brother and sister-in-law, Prosper Senecal (1961) and Mae (Rushia) Senecal (1998).
Relatives and friends may call from Noon to 1 p.m. Monday, March 31, at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at the Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Alan D. Shnob, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Augustine's Cemetery.
