PLATTSBURGH — Mr. Gary W. Schneider, 66, of Lynn Avenue in Plattsburgh, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, March 22, 2014, at the CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Lowville, N.Y. on April 19, 1947, the son of Brayton and Imelda (Virkler) Schneider.
Gary graduated from Lowville Academy in 1965 and later served in the U.S. Air Force from 1966 to 1970. Upon his discharge, he was employed at Imperial Wallcoverings for over 28 years most recently for Lake City Choppers for over 10 years. He was also a Past President of Local 914.
Gary's love for snowmobiling was only surpassed by his friendship and kindness to others. He rode for over 40 years including 15 years of drag racing, following the circuits throughout New York and Vermont. His dedication to the sport carried into a full time job at Lake City Choppers. Everyone will miss his vast knowledge and dedication. He was an active member of the Trail Groomers Snowmobile Club for 20 years and was President from 2008-2012.
He is survived by his son, Jeremy Schneider and his fiance Paula Obert of Plattsburgh; and his only granddaughter, Avery Schneider who was the apple of his eye; his mother, Imelda Schneider of Lowville, N.Y.; a brother and sister in-law, David and Debbie Schneider of Mo., and their children. He is also survived by many loving friends as well. His father, Brayton Schneider passed away earlier.
Calling hours will be held from 1to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 28, at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St. in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 29, at 1 p.m. at St. Peter's Church. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery at a later date.
