Press-Republican

---- — WESTPORT — On March 9, 2014, God sent his angels to bring our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother Aletha Howard, 74, home to rest in his loving arms.

She was born on July 11, 1939, the daughter of Arthur and Anna (Lewis) Stevens. She married Elbert "Pete" Howard and together raised a son, Brian.

Aletha was a certified meat cutter and well known as an excellent cook and worked at local restaurants for many years. She spent a great deal of time being involved with activities at the Westport Bible Church. She also took great pride in her flower gardens. The most important thing to her was her family and friends. She was always there to help a friend. What gave her the most joy in life was doing things with her grandchildren. She attended their school activities and was always taking them to yard sales.

She is survived by her husband Pete; son and daughter-in-law Brian and Lori; grandchildren, Brianne and companion Curtis, Schuyler and companion Rosemary, Sarah, Joseph, Nathan, Jonathan, Garrett, and Dylan. Also four other "granddaughters" Bailey, Morgan, Sydney, and Marcie; brothers, Lloyd Stevens of Willsboro, and Douglas (Betty) Stevens of Westport; sister Kay Graves of Corinth; two sister-in-laws Betty Christian of Elizabethtown, and Bernice Urban of Mineville; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday March 19, at the Westport Bible Church, 24 Youngs Road, Westport, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Westport Bible Church. Arrangements are entrusted to W.M. Marvin's Funeral Home of Elizabethtown.
