CADYVILLE — David J. Carter, 73, of the Hardscrabble Road, died Sunday, March 9, 2014, at his home.
He was born in Plattsburgh on Jan. 16, 1941 the son of Wilfred and Madeline (Turner) Carter Sr.
David graduated from Saranac Central School and Oswego State with a masters degree. He was an Army veteran serviing three years active and over 20 years in the reserves, retiring as a Sergeant Major. David retired from Plattsburgh State in 2001.
He married Judy Rasco on April 4, 1964, at the Church of the Assumption in Redford.
David enjoyed cars, anything mechanical, reading and spending time with his family, especially camping and pancake breakfasts on Sunday mornings.
Survivors include his wife, Judy M. Carter of Cadyville; three sons, David Carter and his wife Crystal of Rouses Point, Donald Carter of Cocoa, Fla., and Carlton Carter of Cadyville; a daughter Elaine Thompson and her husband Dick of Dannemora; a brother, Wilfred Carter and his wife Hildred of Plattsburgh; two grandchildren Stephen J. Carter and Sabrina T. Phair; four sisters-in-law Shirley Carter of Cadyville, Erika Carter of Cadyville, Charlotte Carter of Cadyville and Roseanne Carter; two brothers-in-law, Earl Lyman of Saranac and Casey Hale of Ogdensburg; several nieces and nephews.
David was predeceased by his parents; five brothers Bernard Carter, Michael Carter, Roger Carter, Patrick Carter and Paul Carter; three sisters, Betty Lyman, Grace Soulia and Paulette Hale; a brother-in-law, Sheridan Soulia.
Calling Hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 11, at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, at St. James Church in Cadyville. Burial will be at a later date in the parish cemetery. Masses may be given in memory of David.
