James R. Bracken

KEESEVILLE — James R. Bracken, 67, of Valley View Drive, Keeseville, died Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice of the North Country.

He was born in Plattsburgh, Jan. 31, 1946, the son of the late Harold W. "Slim" and Mary (Brown) Bracken. He grew up in Keeseville and graduated from Keeseville High School.

Jim was a correction officer with the NYS Dept. of Corrections for 32 years. He retired from Dannemora Correctional Facility, July of 2001.

James had a passion for golf and played regularly with a great group of men for over ten years. His love of the Yankees led Jim and Evelyn to make three trips to NYC to see their team. And most of all, anyone that knew Jim could always look forward to being teased and picked on. He was also fond of organizing everyone and everything he was involved with. You just show up and receive your assignment!

Jim was a longtime member of the Keeseville Elks Lodge # 2072. His father "Slim", was a charter member and the first Exhaulted Ruler of the Keeseville Lodge. Jim joined as soon as was permitted, at 21 years old.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Bracken of Keeseville; sister, Sara Jane Gulbrandsen of Poughkeepsie; step-daughter, Juanita Moschos and husband John of Fort Worth, Texas; and five stepsons, James L. Armstrong and wife Tracy of Keeseville, Wayne Armstrong of Brooksville, Fla., Michael Armstrong of Keeseville, George "Butch" Armstrong and wife Colleen of Atglen, Pa., and David Armstrong of Abilene, Texas. Jim was also blessed with ten grandchildren and three and ^ great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Scott James Bracken; step-mother, Rita (Remillard) Bracken; and brother-in-law, Rudolph Gulbrandsen.

At Jim's request there will be no public calling hours. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, at St. John's Church in Keeseville with Monsignor Leeward J. Poissant, parish Pastor, celebrating. A gathering will follow with details to be announced at the Mass. Burial will be private in St. Augustine's Cemetery in Peru.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the FitzPatrick Cancer Center, 75 Beekman Street, Plattsburgh, NY, 12901.
