John "Jack" Miller Soper

MALONE — John "Jack" Miller Soper, 66, of Malone died on May 23, 2013.

He was predeceased by his parents Paul C. and Gertrude Miller Soper.

He is survived by his wife Cindy (Cheeseman) Soper and their children, Cory Soper Jacobs (Brad) of Binghamton, N.Y. and Jeffrey Soper (Erica Reid), Malone, N.Y. He enjoyed spending time with his two grandchildren Alex Miller and Calista Blair Jacobs of Binghamton, N.Y. He is also survived by his sister Joan Soper Dameo (Daniel) of Bridgewater, N.J. and his brother Paul "Bud" Soper Jr. (Jean) of Syracuse, N.Y.; in addition to several nieces and nephews. And he was grateful for the lifetime friendship of special friends Archie and Carol McKee.

Jack graduated from Franklin Academy In 1964, attended the University of Bridgeport, and graduated from SUNY Potsdam in 1971. He spent six years with the U.S. Army Reserves and then spent his career in the social service field, retiring from his final position with the Franklin County Youth Bureau.

Jack was a member of the Malone Lodge of Elks, the Franklin County Historical & Museum Society and the Foothills Arts Society. He cherished his time with family and friends at the Soper family camp on Indian Lake in the Adirondacks. He loved to entertain with his voice and guitar, having played at many special weddings.

Calling hours will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Monday, May 27, at Spauldlng Funeral Home with service to follow at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Morningside Cemetery.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Malone Music Boosters c/o Malone Central School Board Office, Attn. Cindy Gale, 42 Huskie Lane, Malone, NY 12953. Gifts will be used to establish a scholarship that will be awarded to a Malone Central School Student to attend a Summer Music Camp. Please note Jack Soper donation in the memo line.
