SCHROON LAKE — Edward T. Haroff, Trooper (retired), New York State Police, 66, passed away Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, unexpectedly after a fall at his home on Christmas night, with his loving family at his side.
Ed was born Feb. 22, 1947, in Oceanside, N.Y., the son of the late Edward C. and Rosemary T. (Boone) Haroff.
Ed patriotically served in the United States Army in the Military Police (MP) and was a Viet Nam Veteran. Ed proudly served as a Trooper, in Troop B, New York State Police from 1968-1995. Upon his retirement from the New York State Police, Ed owned and operated Haroff Auction and Realty in Schroon Lake, N.Y.
Ed was a consummate businessman with a passion for his auction business which he had built from auctioning livestock and antiques in Schroon Lake to a specialization in Real Estate and auctioning tax foreclosure properties in 16 municipalities throughout New York State. He also owned and operated Adirondack Mobile Shredding in Schroon Lake, N.Y.
Ed was very active in the local community. He was a past member of the Lions Club; served as a Town Councilman, and was a member of the Essex County Republican Committee.
During the winter months, Ed enjoyed spending time with his wife, Linda, at their home in West Palm Beach, Fla.
Those who knew Ed knew his passion for life. He loved his work, he loved his community, and most of all his family and desired above all else that they be happy and content.
In addition to his devoted and loving wife of 22 years, Linda A. (Reeves) Haroff, Ed is survived by his sister, Betty Ann (Bill) Force of Charleston, Ill.; his daughters, Jennifer L. (Jamie) LaPerle and grandchildren Julia and Lucas; Kimberly A. (Rick) Dumoulin and grandson Ricky; and his mother-in-law, Eleanor B. Reeves, all of Schroon Lake; his grandson, Andrew Mervin of Macedon, N.Y.; and his dearest Aunt, Margaret; his cousins, Patti and Joe (Sheila) Boone all of Fla., as well as many members of his extended family.
