GAINESVILLE, FLA. — Douglas L. Nephew, 59, peacefully lost his courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, with his family by his side.
He joined the U. S. Air Force in 1975 and served his country honorably in Korea, Okinawa, Thailand and Vietnam. He retired from the City of Gainesville Regional Transit System as a bus driver. He was an avid drag racer and a member of the Gainesville HOG Chapter. He enjoyed riding his Harley with the ROMEO's.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; his mother Ruth; sisters Janice (Dave) Butler, Karen (George) Murray, Darlene (Mike) Roloff, Laurie (Kevin) Dobert; and brothers Gary (Sharon) Nephew, Daniel (June) Nephew, Gregory (Astrid) Nephew; and sister-in-law Susan Miller; along with several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father, Benjamin Nephew; and brothers Wayne Miller and Thomas Nephew.
