PLATTSBURGH — Mr. Rodney J. Forgette, 67, of Leonard Avenue in Plattsburgh, passed away Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014 at his home with family by his side and under the care of Hospice of the North Country after a long battle with cancer.
He was born in Plattsburgh on May 11, 1946, the son of the late Albert and Ruby (Jennette) Forgette.
Rodney served in the U.S. Navy from 1963 to 1969 including a tour of Vietnam in 1965-1966 and two years in the inactive reserves and also was a driver for President Lyndon Johnson's Inauguration. He later owned and operated R & S Forgette & Forgette Builders for many years. He also was a
superintendent for United Built Homes and Jim Walter Homes in Texas. He was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post 1466 in Beekmantown, American Legion Post 20 and D.A.V. Chapter 179. He was an avid NASCAR fan and his favorite driver was #3 Dale Earnhardt. He was also an avid Washington Redskins fan.
He is survived by his wife of 23, Susan Forgette; his children, Rodney (Joey) Forgette, Pamela Forgette, Randy Forgette, Jodie Forgette, Traci Forgette, all of Maryland; his stepchildren, Glenn "Buster" Fountain Jr., Melissa Fountain, Melody Fountain, all of Plattsburgh; a brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Donna Forgette Sr. of Beekmantown; a sister and brother-in-law, Judy and William Trombly of Sebring, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial followed by military honors will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 3, 2014 at St. Peter's Church. Interment will be in the parish cemetery at a later date.
