Lyman "Buck" George Bezio

PLATTSBURGH - Lyman "Buck" George Bezio, died peacefully at Meadowbrook Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family on Aug. 22, 2013, at the age of 77.

Born Dec. 5, 1935, in Plattsburgh, the son of the late George W. & Viola (Miller) Bezio, he graduated from Mount Assumption Institute in 1954, where he shined as a pitcher during his high school days. A tryout with the Boston Red Sox earned the Sox a lifelong fan.

After graduation, he served in the United States Air Force. While stationed at Forbes Air Force base in Kansas he met Louise Sherrer, who would be the love of his life. Following a whirlwind courtship, they married on Dec. 22, 1956.

After serving in the Air Force, he returned to the Plattsburgh area, living in Morrisonville. Lyman was employed by Lee Appliance and Grand Way prior to working for over 20 years at Press-Republican.

He was a member of St. Alexander's Church and Knights of Columbus.

Lyman was an avid sports fan. Those close to him know that his love of the Boston Red Sox and New York Giants was only exceeded by his love for his family. Everyone knew that on summer nights and fall weekends, the games would be on in the Bezio household. We will miss the always entertaining Red Sox-Yankee "discussions" that would always result when he and his neighbor got together to watch a game.

Over the years, he enjoyed horseshoes, bowling, learning about U.S. History, as well as an occasional cold beer on a hot summer (or cold winter) night. Being a proud American, he was always willing to discuss his political views.

Lyman is survived by his wife of 56 years, Louise Bezio. He is also survived by his children, Theresa Shane of Rochester, N.Y., Tom and Debra DeLeonardo of Charles Town; W.V., Richard and Jacqueline Taylor of Maine, N.Y., Tim and Carol Patnode of Peru, N.Y. and Lyman B. Bezio of Peru, N.Y. Lyman is survived by his grandchildren, Bronwyn and Lee Schaeffer, Katie Shane and Maureen Shane. Nicole Still, John DeLeonardo and Jessica DeLeonardo, Richard and Heather Taylor, Alex Taylor, Lucas Taylor and Zachery Taylor, Derrick Patnode, Ryan Patnode and Curtis Patnode, Alexis Bezio. He also had five great-grandchildren, Madison and Brandon Glass-Shane, Isabella Schaeffer, Brianna Zalesky and Christian Still. Lyman is also survived by his sister, Theresa LeClair; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bernard and Barbara Sherrer, Kenneth and Shirley Sherrer, sister-in-law, Ruthie Sherrer; nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends, as well as his favorite feline companion, Willy Mo.
