SEBRING, FLA. — Seth Ivan Bliven, 85, of Sebring, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, at Good Shepard Hospice. He was born Dec. 3, 1927, in Unadilla, N.Y., the son of Ruth (Harrington) and Ivan O. Bliven.
Seth enlisted in the U.S. Army at age 17 and fought in the South Pacific during World War II. He dedicated his life to his family, education of children, and God as a United Methodist Minister. He had a long career as a teacher and school administrator in the Plattsburgh area. He retired to Clearwater, Fla., in 1985 from Ausable Chasm, N.Y. As a retired minister, he served congregations in Upper Jay and Keene, N.Y., Palm Harbor, Fla., and Sebring, Fla. He enjoyed singing in church choirs and was an accomplished organist. He was an active Kiwanis Club member in Keeseville, N.Y., and Palm Harbor.
He was predeceased by his wife of 32 years, Charlotte Mae (Aubin) in 1984; his parents; his sisters, Arlene R. Hornbeck and Elma M. Bliven; and brother, Owen R. Bliven.
He is survived by a son, George D. Bliven and his wife Cathy of Port Angeles, Wash.; two daughters, Chris Ellen Bliven and her husband Steven Greenbaum of Cudjoe Key, Fla., and Maggie Gandee of Sebring; two brothers, Ralph M. Bliven and his wife Ginny of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Roy B. Bliven and his wife Diane of Safety Harbor, Fla.; four grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at 9 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 3, at Moss Feaster Funeral Home, 693 S. Belcher Rd., Clearwater, FL, followed by a celebration of his life at 10 a.m. Interment will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, at Sarasota National Cemetery in Florida with Military Honors.
