SARANAC — Lillian C. Rhodes of Saranac, died Feb. 9, 2014, at The Wesley Health Care Center, Saratoga Springs. She was born Feb. 6, 1922, the daughter of Velma Bell Cromie and Raymond Stanton Cromie of Saranac. On Oct. 10, 1941, she married Charles O. Rhodes of Dannemora, and they were happily married for nearly 50 years before Charlie's passing on July 24, 1991. Lillian and Charles had one son, The Rev. Dr. Alan C. Rhodes (Nancy) of Esperance, who survives.
Lillian was a wonderful mother and mother-in-law, who had a great smile with a disposition to match. She was a delight to all who knew her, and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She and Charlie had a wonderful life together with their son, and enjoyed traveling across the United States as well as to Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia; camping in the Adirondacks, especially at Fish Creek and Rollins Pond; and the fellowship of many friends and family members.
Lillian was an active member of Saranac United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women (UMW), with whom she worked on many church suppers, rummage sales, and other events. With her husband, she was a former member of "The North Country Squares" square dance club, and the former Tawasee Club, a fellowship group for adult couples and singles in the church. Over the years, she also served on the Memorials and Legacies Committee and other committees in the life of the church.
Lillian was a wonderful, caring mother, a great cook, and a homemaker in every sense of the word. She enjoyed sewing, oil painting, making crafts, and prided herself on making something useful or decorative out of odds and ends.
Lillian's family wishes to thank the staff at Pine Harbour Assisted Living in Plattsburgh, and The Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs, for their wonderful, loving care over the past five years.
