MINEVILLE - Arthur J. Brassard, 90, went home to Jesus on Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, at Horace Nye Nursing Home with his family by his side.
Arthur was the son of Frederick and Marceline Monette Brassard. He was born in Mooers Forks, N.Y., on Nov. 21, 1923.
Arthur had a hard working nature. He never complained about how difficult the work was. Arthur married Irene Nephew on Nov. 28, 1942, by Rev. A.M. Gilbert at the Church of St. Ann's in Mooers Forks, N.Y. In 1944 he enlisted in the Army during World War II. Upon leaving the Army, Arthur worked as a farmer, a miner for Republic Steel, a construction worker, and as a custodian for Moriah Central School.
In his free time, he enjoyed working in his flower beds and vegetable garden. He was very particular about the snow removal on his black top driveway. He was a strong believer in faith and a devoted member of the Church of All Saints. Arthur's evenings were spent watching sports, especially the NY Giants, NY Yankees, and car racing. Most importantly, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed family gatherings in which he could make memories with his wife, children, grandchildren, and siblings.
Arthur is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Irene; his sons, Gene (Donna), Gilbert (Rosann), Bruce (Sue), and Dale (Mary); his daughters, Ann (Jerry) Mitchell, Susan (Rick) Driskell, and Carol Schaefer; daughter-in-law, Judy Brassard; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; his sisters, Eldora Decoste, Beatrice Lavelly, Rita (Clarence) Lavalley; a sister-in-law, Ruth Nephew; several nieces and nephews; and close family and friends, including Mary Brassard and Barbara Brassard.
Arthur was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Ste Rita; his brother, Alvin and wife Genevieve; son Jerome; son-in-law, Dean Schaefer; and grandsons, John Brassard and Lucas Mitchell.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 20, at the Harland Funeral Home, Main St., Port Henry. A Christian Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 21, at the Church of All Saints, Bartlett Pond Road, Mineville. Burial will follow in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Church of All Saints, Mineville Fire Department, or the Moriah Ambulance.
