---- — ELIZABETHTOWN — Gordon Glenn McDougal, 54, of NYS Route 9N, Elizabethtown, went home to the loving arms of his Savior, Sunday, March 24, 3013, following a lengthy illness.
Gordy was born at "the old" Eliz-abethtown Community Hospital (Hubbard Hall), Jan. 17, 1959, the son of Kalvin and Norma (Dickinson) McDougal. He grew up in Elizabethtown, and went to school in Elizabethtown. He also graduated from an Environmental-Forestry program at BOCES in MinevilleWhile in high school, Gordy began working for Essex County as a night watchman for the Old County Home in Whallonsburg. He eventually moved to the housekeeping department at the Horace Nye Home in Elizabethtown, and worked there until retiring three years ago.
Gordy was a lifetime member of the North American Fishing Club, North American Hunting Club, and the National Rifle Association. He was an active member of the Lewis Fish and Game Club, Elizabethtown Fish and Game Club, and County League. He was a past president of the Elizabethtown Fish and Game Club. Gordy was a member of the "Lonestar Road Crew" and Kamp Krusty, and "You Kill 'Em, We Cut' Em".
A more honest, hardworking, kinder, gentler, or more generous man, we will never know.
Survivors include his mother, Norma McDougal of Elizabethtown; his sister, Deborah McDougal Smith (Dan LaMere Sr.) of Elizabethtown; two brothers, Cliff B. McDougal (Kristina) of Elizabethtown, and Travis J. McDougal (Nora) of Lewis; Gerald W. Smith of Lewis, and Leesa Marin of Lewis; four aunts, Dale McDougal Smith of Wilmington, Josie Mc Dougal Perks of Lake Placid, Genevieve Sheldon of S.C., and Esther Dickinson of Rochester; one uncle, Johnny J. McDou gal (Irene) of Daytona Beach, Fla.; nephews, Billie J. Bledsaw (Maria) of Elizabethtown, Travis J. McDougal Jr. of Plattsburgh, Julius Barreto (Alison) of Saranac Lake; and great-nephew, Jayden Rock of Plattsburgh; nieces, Kristen L. McDougal of Plattsburgh, Crystal Grady of Elizabethtown, Elsa Koop of Lewis, and Susan Bullock of Elizabethtown; and great-nieces, Laela Barreto of Saranac Lake, and Kristina Sumner-Bullock of Elizabethtown; and his many loyal and special friends including, Serge (Lonestar), Patty and Brenda Bouchard, Steve and Rose Koop, Jim and Donna Kohler and Mom, and his very special friend, Charlie Brooks, and his many friends at the Elizabethtown and Lewis Fish and Game Clubs.
Gordon was predeceased by his father, Kalvin S. McDougal of Lewis; and his niece, Ashley Marie Grady of Lewis.
Gordy's family would like to thank all of the surrounding churches, as well as those around the country, and friends and neighbors for their continued prayers during his illness. Words cannot express the wonderful care and love Gordy received at the Elizabethtown Community Hospital. He was very blessed to have you all.
A celebration of his life will be held at a date, place, and time, to be announced.
