PLATTSBURGH — Barbara J. Kanaly, 80, of College Avenue, passed away on Friday, March 22, 2013 at the CVPH Medical Center. She was born in Burlington, Vt., on Jan. 17, 1933, the daughter of Ernest and Anna (Fisk) Hatch.
Barbara married Kenneth Kanaly on July 7, 1956 in Plattsburgh, NY. She worked at the Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh as a Registered Nurse from 1953 to 1966. During that time she also taught nursing at the Champlain Valley Nursing School.
Barbara had a special love for family. She enjoyed talking with her grandchildren and spending time reading and shopping. Barbara also loved to travel to Portsmouth, N.H., and to Maine with her husband Kenneth.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Kenneth Kanaly of Plattsburgh; two sons, James Kanaly and his wife Suzanne of Liberty Township, Ohio, and Chris Kanaly and his companion Lisa Williams of Netarts, Ore.; two daughters, Bonnie McCasland and her husband Larry of Queesnbury, N.Y., and Laurie Jankowski and her husband Peter of Dudley, Mass.; five grandchildren, Nicholas Kanaly, Andrew Kanaly, Sam Jankowski, Lauren Jankowski, and Max Jankowski; and a special friend, Sue Davidson.
She was predeceased by her parents and an infant son, Thomas.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at St. John's Church in Plattsburgh.
Burial will take place in the spring in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Plattsburgh.
