Joyce A. (Borden) Lawrence

KEENE - Joyce A. (Borden) Lawrence, 73, passed away peacefully on Dec. 8, 2013, in the presence of family at Adirondack Medical Center.

Joyce enjoyed ceramics, owning her own business for several years and spreading her artistic abilities to friends and family through her many classes. She was also a huge dog lover, never living much of her life without one that she had rescued.

Joyce, born Nov. 20, 1940, to Alex and Cora (Degroff) Borden in Elizabethtown N.Y., was a resident of Westport N.Y. until meeting and eventually marrying Donald I. Lawrence from Keene. She traveled along the East Coast as an Air Force wife when Donald was activated at wartimes. She always spoke fondly of Myrtle Beach.

Once Don retired from the service, they came back to permanent residence on Church Street in Keene, where she was an active member of the Keene Fire Department in the 1980's. Later in life, she was a bookkeeper and worked for Denton Publications.

She was predeceased by both Alex and Cora as well as brothers, Alan, Bo, and Irwin along with sisters, Sharron and Beverly who all resided in Westport. Joyce also lost in 2010 a special sister in-law, Linda Borden, as well as her lifelong love, Donald Lawrence. She is survived by brothers, Irving Borden of Westport and Barry Borden Sr. of Saranac Lake N.Y. She also was aunt to many nieces and nephews throughout the North Country. She was particularly close with Barry Borden Jr. of Jay N.Y., Tanya Borden, Jodie Hart, Beth Williams, Jason Borden (all from Saranac Lake) and Gil Ho Borden from Westport.

Spring service arrangements for Joyce will be made through Marvins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown and will be laid to rest next to her husband in Keene N.Y.

The family would like to thank the staff at Adirondack Medical Center for their caring and excellent staff of medical professionals, not excluding the plethora of Doctors that crossed her path over her many sicknesses.

Memorial donations on her behalf can be made to the Keene Fire Department for their years of service to her and Donald.
