PERU — Rose L. Liberty, 79, of Harkness Road, Peru, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh with her loving family by her side. She was born Nov. 4, 1934, in West Chazy, the daughter of Peter and Bertha (Carson) Decker. Rose grew up, and attended high school in West Chazy.

She worked at the Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh for several years prior to becoming a homemaker to raise her five children. As the children grew and became more self-sufficient, Rose began a 29 year career at Howard Johnson's in Plattsburgh. She was well-known throughout the North Country for her kind, caring nature, and her rose-colored glasses. Tom Hallock, a frequent customer of Howard Johnson's and Rose, at the time worked for Channel 5 and did a beautiful story on Rose with the rose-colored glasses. She retired in 1996.

Rose was a communicant of St. Augustine's Church in Peru.

She enjoyed puzzles, collecting salt and pepper shakers, baking, hosting family gatherings, and camping. Her true love, however, was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved each of them dearly and always looked forward to receiving their hugs.

Survivors include her loving husband of 59 years, Carlton G. Liberty, whom she married Nov. 15, 1954, at St. Joseph's Church in West Chazy; five children and four children-in-law, Gary and Julie Liberty of Peru, Debbie and Gerard Depo of Cadyville, Beverly and Bruce Hanley of Keeseville, James Liberty of Plattsburgh, and Rick and Laurie Liberty of Troy; grandchildren, Peggy Crossman and husband John, Dorothy Sell and husband Nick, Tamber McCabe and husband Justin, Jennifer Recore and husband Jeremy, Joshua Depo and wife Gretchen, Katrina Depo, Ben Depo, Jamie Brunell and husband Matt, Mallory Liberty, Dustin Liberty, and Dillon Liberty; great-grandchildren, Madison and Zander McCabe, Nikolas, Jeremy Jr., and Jakob Recore, Dominick Crossman, and Colton and Allie Brunell; sister and brother-in-law, Pearl and Arnold Burdeau; sister-in-law, Eleanor Decker of New Hampshire; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents; and siblings and their spouses, Peter and Lois Decker, Henry and Ina Decker, James and Jean Decker, Howard Decker, and Bertha and Theodore Garrow.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, at Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, at St. Augustine's Church in Peru with Rev. William G. Reamer, celebrating, and Rev. Alan D. Shnob, parish pastor, concelebrating. Her cremated remains will be placed in the Whispering Maples Memorial Columbarium, Tom Miller Road, Plattsburgh, at a later date.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association Northeastern NY Chapter, 4 Pine West Plaza, Suite 405, Albany, NY, 12205.
