PLATTSBURGH — Edwin M. Leupold Jr., 84, of South Catherine Street, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at the CVPH Medical Center.

He was born in Lawrence, Mass. on August 23, 1929, the son of Edwin and Marie (Marceau) Leupold.

Edwin was an Army Veteran servicing as a military transport. While in service he received the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal.

He married Gabrielle Blanchard on August 29, 1953 at Notre Dame Church in Granby Quebec, Canada. Gabrielle passed away on Oct. 15, 1994.

Edwin was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus, 3rd Degree with Our Lady of Victory and 4th Degree with #225 Charter. He was a life member of the American Legion and the VFW. Edwin retired in 1989 after 32 years at the Grand Union in Plattsburgh.

Survivors include, two sons and a daughter-in-law, James and Susan Leupold of Ballston Lake, N.Y., and Steven Leupold of Plattsburgh; two daughters, Shirley Rose of Plattsburgh and Deborah Leupold of Niskayuna; one brother, Laurence J. Leupold of Calif.; and four grandchildren, Gabrielle and Dennis Rose, Michael and Stephen Leupold; and several nieces and nephews; his beloved cat, Mineau.

He was predeceased by his parents, Edwin and Marie Leupold; his wife, Gabrielle Leupold; and a brother, Carl Leupold.

Because of his love for Christmas decorations, the star on his house will be lit in his honor through Saturday.

Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, at the R. W. Walker Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Plattsburgh at a later date.
