ALTONA — An out-of-town driver died behind the wheel Monday, and police are investigating whether a medical condition is to blame.
State Police and emergency-medical personnel were called to Devils Den Road at about 12:20 p.m. after the one-car accident was reported.
The male driver, who was the only person in the car, was pronounced dead at the accident site.
Based on the early investigation, it appears the 2010 Mazda was heading north when it went off the road, struck several road signs and landed in the ditch.
Authorities suspect a medical condition may have contributed to the accident, but are awaiting autopsy results before making a final determination.
The autopsy is expected to be performed at CVPH Medical Center Tuesday.
Police did not release the driver’s name Monday, pending family notification.
The investigation is ongoing.
