Port Henry to celebrate Labor Day this weekend

PORT HENRY — The 123rd Port Henry/Moriah Labor Day Celebration is Saturday and Sunday, with a parade and free live music.

Events start Saturday with bluegrass music at the Port Henry Beach at 6:30 p.m. A fireworks show will follow from the State Pier at 8:30 p.m.

On Sunday, the events start at the beach at 9 a.m. The Lake Champlain Maritime Museum will be offering instructional rides for children on wooden row boats. There will be games for children from 9 a.m. until noon, with prizes.

There will also be craft vendors at the beach from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

From 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the annual chicken barbecue will be held at the beach.

A three-on-three elimination basketball tournament will be held in the morning for kids from fifth through 12th grade. The finals will be held in the afternoon.

The annual parade begins at 1 p.m. on Main Street.

After the parade, from 3 p.m. on, there will be a team horseshoe competition for adults and cardboard boat races for children. 

There will also be donkeys and a wood-shaving pit where children can dig for coins. Penelope the Clown (Catherine Sprague) will be performing at the beach. 

The Port Henry Fire Department rubber duck race will be held on Mill Brook, next to the beach.

From 3 to 5 p.m., the Wadham Waddlers will perform at the beach, with Loose Connections band on stage from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
