LAKE PLACID — Police arrested a Lake Placid businessman for allegedly stealing cash and medication.
Lake Placid Village Police said Thursday that Charles D. Levitz was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony.
Lake Placid Police Sgt. Chuck Dobson said the arrest came as the result of a police investigation.
“We had a complaint about stolen property,” he said, but did not name the person who filed the complaint.
The news release said “it was determined that (Levitz) possessed stolen property and did impede the rightful owner from recovering it.
"The property consisted of $1,300 (cash) and prescription medication.”
Levitz, 60, was arrested on June 12 and released on an appearance ticket.
He had not yet been arraigned in Village Court as of Thursday morning.
Dobson said the investigation did not find that Levitz had any intent to sell the prescription medication, which was one bottle of a controlled substance.
Levitz, a chef, owns Chair 6 restaurant on Sentinel Road. He was arrested on Sentinel Road, according to police reports.
After arraignment, the case will be turned over to the Essex County District Attorney's Office for review.
The felony charge relates to the alleged theft of cash in excess of $1,000.
