PLATTSBURGH — The ARC Foundation is hosting the sixth-annual Festival of Trees to raise funds and awareness for the developmentally disabled in the community and their families.

Individuals, businesses and civic groups have chosen themes and will decorate holiday trees, which will be showcased, starting Sunday, at the Festival of Trees in Champlain Centre mall in Plattsburgh, near the inside entrance to Gander Mountain.

The festival will kick off at 1 p.m. Sunday, with local judges awarding ribbons to their choices in these categories: Most Original, Most Holiday Spirit, Most Creative and Judges’ Choice.

Anyone wishing to make a donation to the ARC Foundation will have their name entered into a drawing to win a tree. The cost is $5 per ticket or $20 for six tickets.

People take their tickets and place them in receptacles at whichever trees they hope to win.

A separate People’s Choice award will be given halfway through festival. That winner will be determined by the tree that receives the most ticket “votes.”

The Festival of Trees will run until Saturday, Dec. 1. People who win the trees will be notified by phone.

The winning trees will be wrapped and ready for pickup from 10:30 a.m. to noon Sunday, Dec. 2, at Champlain Centre mall or 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, at Champlain Valley Industries, 9 Industrial Boulevard, Plattsburgh. ARC can provide delivery within a 20-mile radius for a $10 fee.

The event is underwritten by Empire Blue Cross. Media sponsors for the event are the Press-Republican, Hometown Radio WIRY, WOKO/Kool 105, Fox 44 and Studley Printing and Publishing.
