PLATTSBURGH — Dr. Jonathan Mulholland will set up a chiropractic and sports-related medical-services practice at 42 U.S. Oval.

City of Plattsburgh councilors unanimously agreed to lease the building at a recent session.

Located next to the city’s Recreation Center, it used to house the chaplain when the property was Plattsburgh Air Force Base.

The lease is for $400 per month for one year with options for more.

Mayor Donald Kasprzak agreed with the council’s approval of the lease.

“I think it is better to have that property leased and bring in some revenue instead of having it sit empty,” he said following Thursday’s meeting.

“I would hope that the next mayor and future councils will pursue a sale of some kind in the future.”

Kasprzak is not running for re-election this year, and all six council seats could be filled with newcomers next year.

The city advertised for bids for the lease of the property, and Mulholland’s offer was the only one submitted.

He said the site next to the recreation center is perfect for his business, which is suited toward athletes.

“With the running craze going on, it’s a great spot,” he said.

The Air Force left the area in 1995. The city eventually took over the Oval property in the mid-2000s.

Most of the properties have been sold or leased, but the former chaplain’s building has been empty for several years.
