PLATTSBURGH — The Cornelia Street Office of Glens Falls National Bank and Trust Co. collected donations and supplies for the Elmore SPCA during its recent Community Appreciation Day on Sept. 20.
The Cornelia Street Office Raises $400 for the shelter. Basket raffles and donations resulted in this total for the nonprofit, along with food and other pet supplies. In addition, the Elmore SPCA brought adoptable pets to the branch to help find them homes.
The event also featured food, giveaways and free pet grooming services by Pawfection Pet Grooming.
Glens Falls National Bank and Trust Co. provides banking and financial services through 30 offices in Clinton, Warren, Washington, Saratoga, and Essex counties. It hosts community days throughout the year as a way to show appreciation for its customers and neighbors, and assist local causes.
PLATTSBURGH — Champlain Centre Mall will be hosting the Meet the Cardinals fall event from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. Wednesday in front of Dick’s Sporting Goods. Visitors are invited to meet the fall athletes from the men’s and women’s soccer teams, the men’s and women’s cross-country teams, the volleyball team and the tennis team.
Each team will be handing out game schedules and team photos. Participants can shake their hands, get their autographs and get their picture taken with the athletes that represent PSU. The fall Cardinal athletes will also be raffling off team merchandise to raise money for breast-cancer awareness. All proceeds will be donated to the Treasure Chests Breast Cancer Support Group of CVPH.
Marty the Moose will assist in welcoming the fall athletes. The event is open to the community, youth teams, athletes and all fans of Plattsburgh State athletics. Champlain Centre expects to host this event for the fall, winter and spring seasons.

TICONDEROGA — To conclude their annual Credit Union Week celebration, the Ticonderoga Federal Credit Union (TFCU) will host its first annual Community Appreciation Event and fourth annual Shred Fest on Saturday, Oct. 19. The events are free and will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Best Western Plus of Ticonderoga.
The Community Appreciation Event is a free carnival-themed celebration featuring family-friendly activities. They include a bounce house for kids, Penelope the Clown to provide free face-painting and balloons, a chance to win prizes by spinning the prize wheel, information about TFCU’s products and services including youth savings accounts, an online and mobile banking demo, loan-referral program and new member registration.
“We’re happy to provide a family-friendly event as a means of giving back to the community,” said Shawn Hayes, TFCU president and CEO. “TFCU members and non-members alike are invited to partake in the activities and learn more about the credit union.”
The Shred Fest is a free paper-shredding event to increase public awareness of identity theft prevention. Community members are invited to bring their confidential documents to be shredded on site in a mobile shredding truck. Shredding documents containing personally identifying information before throwing them away is one of the most important ways consumers can prevent identity theft.
Paper, folders, envelopes, check registers, paper bound by staples, paperclips and spiral bindings can be shredded. However, documents bound with metal binder clips cannot. Donation of a non-perishable food item in exchange for the free service is suggested. Proceeds from the recycling of documents shredded at the event will be donated to local food pantries.
LAKE PLACID — The Mirror Lake Inn Resort and Spa recently welcomed Chelsea Walker to its staff of world-class cosmetologists.
Walker, with 10 years of experience in the salon business and more in the service industry, comes to the Lake Placid resort operation from a day spa in Skaneateles.
“With the addition of Chelsea, along with the hiring of Bernadette Hanrahan, the spa and salon are well-positioned to continue our mission of exceeding guests’ expectations,” said Spa Manager Annie Brucker. “Chelsea’s understanding of our service goals will enable her to fit in perfectly here.”
The spa now offers seven experienced cosmetologists to serve the needs of residents and visitors.
“I love the mountains and hiking,” Chelsea said. “It’s beautiful. I’ve always wanted to move to the Adirondacks. It’s small town and it’s safe.”
Walker’s employment began in early September.

PLATTSBURGH — The County of Clinton Industrial Development Agency held its annual meeting on Sept. 16 and elected the following slate of officers:
Trent Trahan, chairperson; David Hoover, vice chairperson; Michael Zurlo, secretary; Kim Murray, assistant secretary; and John VanNatten, treasurer and chief financial officer.
The agency also appointed Erin M. Hynes as executive director and George W. Cregg Jr., Esq., of the Albany offices of Hodgson Russ LLC as special and bond counsel.
The officers were also elected as the 2013-14 officers of the Municipal Leasing Corporation and the Clinton County Capital Resource Corporation.
SARANAC LAKE — Mortgage originator PrimeLending has appointed Gloria Volz as an associate loan officer along with Franny Preston at the PrimeLending office located at 118 Santanoni Ave. in Saranac Lake.
Volz brings to PrimeLending her professional organizing skills, which add to Preston’s more than 20 years of mortgage-lending experience. They will work together helping clients obtain the purchase or refinance mortgage loan they need.

PLATTSBURGH — Plattsburgh Housing Outlet will host its 14th annual Halloween Festival from 1 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 26.
Children 12 and under are encouraged to come in costume. The model homes, displayed in a community setting, allow children to trick-or-treat in a controlled environment. Local businesses and civic organizations have sponsored individual homes and will staff the homes and hand out candy or treats during the event.
Children will be entertained by magician Ishkabibble next door at Della Honda at 3 p.m. There will be arts and crafts, a raffle and 25-cent games. Participants can bob for apples and enjoy cider and munchkins.
District 3 will have a firetruck on display and offer fire-safety advice, and the Clinton County Sheriff’s Dept. will be offering a child fingerprinting and ID service from 2 to 4 p.m. Parking will be available on site as well as at Della Honda.
Plattsburgh Housing Outlet will again contribute all proceeds to the Ronald McDonald House in Burlington. Since the festival started, Plattsburgh Housing Outlet has raised more than $47,000 for the charity.
Statistics show that more than 70 percent of the families using the facility are from the New York side of the lake. The suggested $1-per-child donation, as well as funds collected from the games and raffle, will all provide this support for families in need.
