PLATTSBURGH — Sarah Stansbury, Roger Wright, Steve LaBombard, Patrick Holcombe, Ron Deragon, Jody Bourdeau Fountain and Michelle Fowler have been elected to the 2014 Clinton County Board of Realtors.
In total, the board is comprised of approximately 120 licensed real-estate professionals who are members of the National Association of Realtors, New York Association of Realtors and the Clinton County Board of Realtors.
The Clinton County Board is a professional trade organization providing its members with programs, service and education to enhance and safeguard their ability to successfully conduct business while maintaining a high standard of conduct as set forth by the National Association of Realtors Code of Ethics.
PLATTSBURGH — Peru native Alyssa Felio has joined the staff of the North Country Chamber of Commerce as group marketing specialist for the Adirondack Coast Visitors Bureau.
In addition to assisting in day-to-day marketing activities, Felio will lead the Visitors Bureau’s efforts in attracting groups, motorcoaches and meetings to the area establishing the Adirondack Coast as a premier group travel destination. She will also play an integral role in planning and securing pro bass fishing tournaments on Lake Champlain with the City of Plattsburgh.
“The Visitors Bureau is excited to welcome Alyssa back to the Adirondack Coast and to the chamber staff. Her experience and enthusiasm will prove to be vital in her new role as group marketing specialist. We were searching for someone who understood the area, could help further the Destination Master Plan and grow the group travel segment — and Alyssa is a perfect fit,” said Kristy Kennedy, director of the Adirondack Coast Visitors Bureau.
Felio recently completed her master’s degree in Business Administration with a focus in Hospitality at Johnson and Wales University and holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Marketing from Plattsburgh State. Before joining the chamber, she worked as a senior customer associate at Anthropologie while furthering her education. Prior to that, she held the role of game day marketing coordinator for The Kraft Group as well as many marketing positions at local businesses including The Orchard House Catering and p.o.d studio.
“Living away for the past two years has given me a new admiration for the Adirondack Coast, an admiration based on seeing what other parts of the country are doing and knowing the value of what we have,” she said. “As a person who grew up in Peru and left to pursue my educational ambitions in the big city, I now realize more than ever the advantages and never-ending potential of this region.”
LAKE PLACID — The Whiteface Lodge will hosts this month’s North Country Business Council mixer.

PLATTSBURGH — Carolyn Tetreault, owner of A Beautiful Mess at 74 Margaret St. in Plattsburgh, recently attended an intensive, two-day training session in Fort Worth, Texas.
The training was at the headquarters of the Maison Blanche Paint Co., the company that distributes the vintage furniture paint, waxes and finishes that Tetreault carries a full stock of in her store. Annie Omar, a professional painter and owner of the company, conducted the training.
More than a dozen different designer painting techniques for furniture and accessories were taught. The paint is a special paint with chalk as one of its components formulated to adhere to any surface without prep or stripping.
Tetreault’s store, a gift and home-décor shop, is the only distributor in the area that sells this special paint. She will be offering workshops in the near future to teach the techniques.
PLATTSBURGH — The Wood ‘N Glass Shop located at 61 Champlain Street, Plattsburgh, has earned the service industry’s Angie’s List Super Service Award, reflecting an exemplary year of service provided to members of the consumer review service in 2013.

PLATTSBURGH — Representatives from the Adirondack Coast continue their outreach this week displaying at the Farm Bureau’s 2014 Taste of NY Reception in Albany and the Montreal RV Show.
State senators and assembly members were able to mingle with Farm Bureau members from their districts Monday night at Farm Bureau’s annual Taste of NY reception. Counties from all over the state prepared local products for legislators to savor throughout the night. This was the fourth year Adirondack Coast representatives have participated in the event and presented legislators with maple, cider doughnuts, a variety of local apples, wine and Plucky Rooster Ale, all made on the Adirondack Coast.
Representatives on hand from the Adirondack Coast included Vicki Giroux, general manager of La Quinta and Chair of the Adirondack Coast Visitors Bureau; Shannon Rulfs, manager of Rulfs Orchard; and Diane and Tom Frey, owners of ELFs Farm Winery and Cider House. These representatives distributed products from Rulfs, Northern Orchard, Chazy Orchard, Plattsburgh Brewing Company, Parker’s Family Maple Farm, Vesco Ridge Vineyard, The Champlain Wine Co. and ELFs Farm.
Taste of NY directly ties into the Destination Master Plan of Clinton County and showcases the region’s agricultural products. The event is held the night before Farm Bureau Lobby Day in which Farm Bureau members talk with legislators to advise them of Farm Bureau’s agriculture priorities for the year.
The Adirondack Coast Visitors Bureau, a division of the North Country Chamber of Commerce, will also be exhibiting at the Montreal RV Show at Olympic Stadium for the third year from March 6 to 9. The show will provide the opportunity to introduce this vacation destination to more than 60,000 camping and caravanning enthusiasts. At the show, the bureau will be touting the area’s superior RV parks and campgrounds that offer breathtaking views of the Adirondack Mountains and Lake Champlain.
PORT HENRY — The Port Henry Office of Glens Falls National Bank and Trust Co. will host a St. Patty’s-themed Community Appreciation Day on Friday.
The event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 4307 Main Street will include homemade soup, sandwiches, cookies and other refreshments as well as giveaways, games and prizes.
A raffle for a chance to win one pizza a month for one year or $50 worth of lottery tickets will benefit the Lake Champlain Memorial Garden and Angel of Hope Monument. A representative from the organization will be on-site to talk about its mission and answer any questions.
The garden and monument are being created at the Moriah Town Hall as a peaceful place for anyone who has experienced loss to remember their loved one. Lucille and Tom Carpenter of Moriah started this project to honor their son, who died in 2005, and to help others who are grieving.
Glens Falls National Bank and Trust provides banking and financial services through 30 offices in Warren, Washington, Saratoga, Essex and Clinton counties. It hosts community events throughout the year as a way to show appreciation for its customers and neighbors and assist local causes.
PLATTSBURGH — The North Country Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Free Information Session about this year’s trip to Austria and Germany. The session will be held at the Chamber of Commerce office, 7061 Route 9, Plattsburgh, at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Attendees will learn all about this group travel opportunity, meet others who are going on the tour and have the opportunity to ask detailed questions.
The trip to Austria and Germany runs from Oct. 1 to 9. Guests will stay in Innsbuck for the week while making day trips to Oktoberfest, Neuschwanstein Castle, The Imperial Palace and more. The cost is $2,899 per person, including airfare from Montreal, based on double occupancy. Participants do not have to be chamber members, so family, friends and co-workers are invited.

TICONDEROGA — As part of Chamber Day, the Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce will host a Membership Open House on Wednesday, April 2, from 1 to 3 p.m.
Businesses and organizations that are not-yet members interested in learning more about the chamber and the benefits of being a member are encouraged to attend. Current chamber members wishing to learn more about the benefits of being a member or have questions are also welcome.
The open house will take place at the chamber office located at 94 Montcalm St., Suite 1, in downtown Ticonderoga.
ALBANY — Applications are now available for the fifth annual New York Business Plan Competition.
Deadlines are approaching for student teams from across the state to apply for the chance to win more than $500,000 in total prizes as part of the upcoming regional competitions and the statewide final round which will be held April 25.
“This competition brings together some of the brightest and most entrepreneurial college students from across the state and provides them with the chance to bring their business ventures to market,” Gov. Andrew Cuomo said. “In the past, this program has paired young entrepreneurs with mentors and investors who have helped jump start their ideas toward implementation, and I encourage all interested students to apply to this year’s competition.”
As the largest such competition in the Northeast, it has grown from a dozen teams competing for nearly $30,000 in prizes in 2010 to one of the largest student business competitions in the country with more than 500 expected teams vying for more than $500,000 in prizes this year.
Each team will pitch a business idea to a panel of judges that includes national venture capitalists, angel investors, investment bankers, private-equity investors and seasoned entrepreneurs.
More than 60 colleges and universities are expected to participate. Interested students are encouraged to submit their business plans for innovations related to areas that include nanotechnology/advanced technology, energy/sustainability, biotechnology/healthcare, information technology/software, products/services and social entrepreneurship/non-profit.
