---- — BANGOR— A Malone woman was injured in a one-car accident Saturday evening and later charged with DWI.
Wendy Patnode, 43, was eastbound on Route 11 in Bangor when her vehicle exited the north side of the roadway at about 7:50 p.m. Patnode told police she had swerved to avoid a deer.
Leaving the road, her car drove into a nearby was a chainsaw-carving establishment and struck a large log that was to be used in chainsaw carving, State Police reported. Her vehicle continued, struck a pile of timber and rolled over, police said.
Patnode suffered laceration to her head and a possibly broken hand. She was transported to Alice Hyde Medical Center where she was treated and later released.
After the accident a fire started in the vehicle’s engine, but police were able to extinguish the blaze.
According to Police, Patnode refused a DWI breath screening and blood test. She was charged with DWI refusal, a misdemeanor. She was also ticketed for failure to keep right.
