Shunsuke Sugimoto allowed one run over the final two innings and was the winning pitcher. Nate Swahn surrendered just one run in relief for the Spartans, but was tagged with the loss.
In the second game, Castleton (25-11) jumped in front with a run in the first and three more in the second for a 4-0 lead.
The Spartans still led, 4-1, when the Cardinals (13-23) tallied two in the fifth to pull to within one and two more in the sixth to take the lead, with Rosario’s run-scoring single the game-winning hit.
Rosario led the Cardinals with three hits, while Mulvihill boomed a long solo home run over the left-center field fence and added a two-run double in the fifth. Chavez also had a RBI single.
“It was good for our players to get some playing time today,” Doorey said. “Rosario had a great day both offensively and defensively, and Mulvihill had a great day at the plate.”
Five other Plattsburgh players added a hit each in the second contest as the Cardinals had 10 hits in all.
Macyn Clifford was the lone Spartan to get two hits.
Colin Crawford gave Plattsburgh three scoreless innings in relief and Rafael Ponce went the final two scoreless innings to get the pitching victory. Ethan Macura took the loss in relief.
“It was a good day to play baseball and we were able to get two wins,” Doorey said.
The Cardinals close out their 2013 season when they host SUNY Canton on Tuesday at Lefty Wilson Field under the lights.
