---- — PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton Community College baseball team had a difficult day of it on Saturday against Jefferson Community College.
It didn’t get a whole lot better Sunday when the two teams played at Lefty Wilson Field.
The Cannoneers swept a twinbill with an 18-3 five-inning victory in the opener and a 13-4 decision in the nightcap.
“They’re a good team,” Clinton coach Tom Neale said. “You can’t compound mistakes against them.
“We had opportunities to limit the damage today, but we didn’t. And they’re too good if you don’t.”
Aierl Suriel tossed a six-hitter in the first game for the Cannoneers, who held an 11-3 lead before scoring seven runs in the fifth inning.
Jamie Davison and Joe Tolosky led the Cougars with two hits each, with Tolosky driving in two runs. The losing pitcher was Eric Rock.
In the second contest, Jefferson held an 8-0 lead before Clinton got three runs back in the fifth. But the Cannoneers broke it open with four in the top of the sixth.
Junior Garcia was the winning pitcher, while Chris Ballester swung the big bat for the Cannoneers with a home run and double.
Rock and Matt Leta rapped doubles, with Rock getting two RBIs, for the Cougars. Clinton had six players get a hit each.
Davison started on the mound and took the loss.
The Cougars are back on the diamond at 2 p.m. on Tuesday with a doubleheader against Adirondack Community College.
